August2017 Morton Method/Newsletter (Handler Involvement)

The above video link has my voice over to help pinpoint the points of performance of the handler.

“One of the most important things of being a K9 handler is reading your dog.

Identify the change of behavior”.

As for trainers, you can can be the best tracker with a K9 in the world, but what makes you a trainer is how many handlers you train to be like you.

Tip of the Month (Morton Method):  A handler must always be three steps ahead of his canine. One example: Even though a team may work during the day, doesn’t mean that there isn’t going to be a dark room in a building that you are doing a building search in. So I promote at anytime you are working your K9, turn on the red lens embedded in the Canine Tactical’s Mod 3 or custom fit ballistic vest, or if you don’t have a vest, and you are using electric collar device, turn that light on or put your head lamp around your dogs neck. In turn, your dog will work with more confidence in dark rooms.
